Music as Medicine KHOU11 Interview
Music as Medicine was recently featured on KHOU11 News for its exceptional mentorship program and organization mission. The interview showcased the program's talented student mentees, Lanier Middle School's Orchestra director, and Music as Medicine's dedicated mentors. The program is designed to provide guidance and support to aspiring musicians, helping them to develop their skills and harness their true potential. Fundraising Concert 2023
The Music as Medicine organization celebrated a significant milestone with a fundraising concert on November 25, 2023. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our board, members, and volunteers, the event was a huge success, raising over $15,000 in donations. The concert featured a lineup of musical talents, including the Lanier Middle School Orchestra, the Kostka Combo, and the Spider Quartet, who delivered awe-inspiring performances. It was an unforgettable experience that showcased the power of music Music as Medicine is bringing to the community.

During the segment, the organization was highly commended for its remarkable achievements and community service that it performs within Houston. UT Austin's Dell Seton Hospital Recital
Following the success of their performance at the Texas State Capitol, our Music as Medicine musicians were invited to perform at the Dell Seton Hospital in Austin, TX. The hospital staff and patients were delighted to have them there, and the musicians brought smiles to the faces of everyone they met. Their music created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, providing a much-needed experience to all staff, patients, and families alike.

With a group of talented musicians with a passion for classical music, Music as Medicine visited the Texas State Capitol to showcase the group's musical talents and spread the healing power of music. The group performed a variety of classical music pieces, each carefully selected to uplift and inspire the audience. Their performance at the Capitol was a perfect example of how music can help create a positive environment and bring people together.

Crockett Elementary School Summer Music Camp
During Crockett Elementary School's Music Camp, Music as Medicine had the pleasure of hosting a group of talented elementary school students who already had a solid foundation in playing musical instruments. Over the course of the camp, we delved deeper into advanced musical concepts. Through collaborative workshops, interactive lessons, and captivating performances, the campers further nurtured their creativity and gained a deeper appreciation for the art of music.

Mark Twain Elementary School's Summer Music Camp
We are excited to announce the successful completion of Music as Medicine's 4-Day Summer Music Camp at Mark Twain Elementary School. This transformative event brought together young musicians from diverse backgrounds to explore music basics and various instruments. Guided by experienced instructors, participants honed their skills and discovered the healing power of music. Through workshops, performances, and fun exercises, campers developed their talents, fostered personal growth, and created lasting connections.

Lanier Middle School’s 6th Grade Meet & Greet
Music as Medicine attended Lanier Middle School's 2023 6th-grade meet and greet event, where we introduced our initiative and showcased the power of music as a healing tool. We collaborated with Lanier's talented orchestra, laying the foundation for a future chapter at the school to bring the mission of Music as Medicine to its students. Through Lanier's Meet and Greet, Music as Medicine brought the joy and ability to foster positive change through music to its students!

Houston Methodist 2023 Mother’s Day Performance
Music as Medicine Mother's Day Performance was a heartfelt project that took place on Mother's Day 2023, aiming to bring joy and healing to mothers and patients of the Methodist through the power of music. Featuring a diverse repertoire, talented musicians, and soulful performances, the project created a memorable experience that celebrated and honored mothers while providing a soothing and uplifting musical journey.

Methodist Mother’s Day Keychain Event
Music as Medicine Mother's Day Keychain Event was a collaborative effort between Music as Medicine and DeBakey HSHP Interact Club. MAM and DHSHP Interact created personalized keychains and gifted them to patients at the Methodist Hospital. Alongside our heartfelt gift, we also delivered uplifting performances to bring joy and healing through the power of music.

DeBakey Pep Rally Live Musical Chairs
To raise school spirit for upcoming AP exams, Music as Medicine collaborated with DeBakey’s Student Council to prepare a Live Musical Chairs event as part of the Spring Pep Rally. Playing “Can Can” from Orpheus in the Underworld, Music as Medicine successfully lifted the spirits of DeBakey High School with uplifting music and hoodie prizes.

The Amazing Place Recital
DeBakey Music as Medicine’s first collaboration was with the Music Chamber Club at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts, which has since become a chapter of Music as Medicine. Several volunteers performed for the seniors at The Amazing Place.

DeBakey 8th Grade Open House
The officers of the DeBakey’s Music as Medicine gathered to showcase the club to 8th graders interested in the school. The stand included a poster of the club’s objectives, instruments, and accomplishments, and several instruments were laid out for the students to try.
DeBakey 2022 Freshman Viper Camp
The second Viper Camp that the DeBakey Music as Medicine Club participated in showcased the numerous accomplishments of the club to incoming freshmen during the summer of 2022. Students were encouraged to join the club with flyers and information about the interest meeting. Over 120 students filled out the interest form, growing the club to the second largest at the school.
Methodist 2022 Holiday Event
DeBakey’s Music as Medicine Club partnered with the Interact Club to prepare a Christmas performance at the Houston Methodist Crain Garden. Interact prepared handmade flowers and candy cane goodie bags to pass out to the patients and staff as the Music as Medicine musicians performed. There were over 20 volunteers performing various pieces from classical music to pop songs.
Methodist 2022 Summer Performance
Music as Medicine’s first in-person performance was at the Methodist Crain Garden in July of 2022. The audience included various staff members and patients who came down to watch the musicians perform. Members followed strict COVID-19 protocol and performed various pieces ranging from Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor to Joji’s “Glimpse of Us.”
