Mary Shim
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Mary Shim, age 17, is a freshman at Princeton University in New Jersey, and a passionate violinist since the second grade. With a group of 60 high school members, she founded the DeBakey Music as Medicine Club during her freshman year. As Music as Medicine grew to hold live performances and music workshops in collaboration with national institutions, she evolved the club into a non-profit organization in hopes of expanding the positive impact of their work. Today, Music as Medicine is a President’s Volunteer Service Award Certifying, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. with over 30 chapters nationwide. Through MAM, Mary hopes to bridge the fields of music and medicine, providing comfort through music and mentoring younger students to support their cause. She plans to continue her work at Princeton University for the next four years through research initiatives and continuous service.
